Teeny Square Samples

Crochet Samples 1

I started on the color samples project over the weekend. It takes almost no time to make the little squares. I’m making them just under 2 inches because I’ve had what I hope is a brilliant idea. I was aimlessly browsing around on Listia and I stumbled upon someone with those sheets that you put slides or coins in. Each sheet has 20 little 2×2 pockets. I snapped them up and if all goes well I plan to put each little square into a pocket. Then on the back I can slip in a paper with the info about the yarn–you can see the slips in the picture also. I’ll be disappointed if the little pockets don’t work out but I’ll have to wait until they arrive to see!

I hope the pockets fit, too! I kind of like this project because sometimes I just want to crochet something quick and mindless. It takes about 5 minutes to make each little square including weaving in the ends. I could see this becoming one of those odd, lifelong projects for me–making swatches from bits of yarn cajoled from friends just so I have a sample of it even if I never use it. ๐Ÿ˜€

You WILL use it. Color is so important in every project. I decorative paint- we made a living with my husband’s furniture and my painting for years.
In some of my patterns I emphasis the color choices one has and the cool thing is: With different colors the same pattern might not even look like the same project. You keep up the good work! I am rooting for you!

Thanks! I know I’ll get use out of the swatches because I’m always forgetting what a color really looks like if I haven’t used it in awhile. I was only going to make swatches of yarn that I use on a regular basis, but now I kind of want to have swatches of any yarn I can get my hands on, even if it’s not a yarn I would ever use in a project.

It will ALWAYS be helpful. I work with jute a lot lately, because it is easy to come by and fairly inexpensive, but hard on people’s hands.
With designing patterns I have found color is VERY tricky. For example dark colors take lousy pictures, louse picture will not make people want to try the pattern. I am getting smarter as I go along. I just wish I can figure this computer stuff out. That is what drives me mad!!!! …. if I ever would get mad. I can do all things, except computer makes NO sense to me.

Ha! I think I’m the opposite. I’ve been so enmeshed in computers since the late 70s that they’re just sort of an extension. Sometimes it’s the rest of the world that baffles me! ๐Ÿ˜€ Yes, taking pictures of certain colors is annoying sometimes–like red. It just does not want to take a good photograph, even in natural light sometimes. I find myself skipping over the red when I make things mainly because of the picture taking–and red is one of my favorite colors!

Have not tried red in pictures. But will defiantly reconsider my designs regarding colors.
Let me know, when you finish your swatches, please.

I’ll probably post about it again from time to time. I’m thinking this may be one of those projects that goes on for a long time! ๐Ÿ˜€
