I made a little gift box with RHSS Teal. I use a “G” hook for these and it really does a number on my hand. I used to use that size hook all the time–maybe that’s why I never entirely embraced crochet before. The combo of using an “H” hook and switching to Bates style made all the difference.
But I digress. I’ve made a few of these little boxes and I like the way they look. It’s basically a hat. I make increases until the base is the size I want. On the next row I SC in BLO to give it a defined edge. For the sides I just freeform–alternating between rounds of SC, DC, or HDC. The lid is just the same, but including one extra round of SC to make it slightly larger than the box.

These turn out well I think, but I wish they were easier on the hands!

I love the yarn – and the colour used – in this pattern, so I might have to give it a go myself ๐

My grandmother used to crochet any time she was resting. It never interested me when I was younger, and now that I would love to make some of the things she made, it’s too late for her teach me. She passed away when I was 22. I imagine it does make your hands sore, but I love this teal one you posted. I would love to have some. I’m not interested enough to actually learn though and make them. It would be a hobby that would last a month and then I’d never touch it again. I adore things like this though for decorations around the home. Very nice!!

Thanks for your kind words. I started crocheting years ago but like you mentioned I got tired of it and let it lie for years. I guess things were just right when I picked it up again. Now I love to do it!
