Simply Squared Granny

Simply Squared Granny

Today’s Square: Simply Squared Granny
Size: 4.25 inch
Pattern By: AYYA Handmade
Hook: H
Yarn: Worsted weight acrylic mystery yarn in claret
Pattern from: Ravelry

Notes: This is a cute little square–I like the star shaped pattern in the middle. The pattern has both chart and illustrated written instructions. The chart actually came in handy when I got confused at one point!

17 of 99

17 of 99Today’s Square: 17 of 99
Size: 4 inch
Pattern By: Mary Ann Sipes
Hook: H
Yarn: Red Heart Classic emerald; mystery yarn teal, apple green.
Pattern from: Ravelry

Notes: I’m ambivalent about this square. It’s quick to make, but the front post split clusters in round 2 are fiddly. If you don’t place the FP stitches on the second leg just so, it looks twisted (as mine does). Not fantastic enough to go through the annoyance. I’m not a fan of FP stitches anyway! From the 99 Granny Squares to Crochet book.

Golden Shells 2015

Golden Shells 2015

Today’s Square: Golden Shells
Size: 6.5 inch
Pattern By: Jean Leinhauser
Hook: H
Yarn: Red Heart Classic emerald, RHSS Dark Thyme.
Pattern from: Ravelry

Notes: Another revisited square from the 50 Fabulous Squares to crochet book. I first did this one in 2012 and enlarged it to 10 inches for my pillowghan. This time I omitted the last round and did the corners in the last three rounds with a stitch-CH-stitch combo. It looks better in the smaller version.

Half and Half Square

half and half squareToday’s Square: Half and Half
Size: 4 inch
Pattern By: Linda Laney
Hook: H
Yarn: Red Heart Classic emerald, RHSS Dark Thyme.
Pattern from: Ravelry

Notes: Ok, don’t laugh. I got in my mind to make the Memory Star afghan from the Herrschners Blue-Ribbon Afghans book. Of course this means that I will eventually have to JOIN over 400 small squares to make an afghan that is fashioned after a quilt. The reason I decided on this was because the squares are basically 3-round traditional grannies. It’s something I can do while traveling or waiting for appointments without having a pattern.

Many of the blocks are half and half blocks like this. They are not triangles joined. The granny is worked half and half. I had a moment of befuddlement with a stretch of yarn that you ended up with at the second color change. Of course YouTube came to the rescue. User Bethintx1 always has a lot of useful tips and this time was no exception. This square was just a tester to see if it would be too annoying.

51 of 99

Today’s Square: 51 of 99
Size: 11.5 inch
Pattern By: Katherine Satterfield
Hook: H
Yarn: Vanna’s Choice denim; mystery yarn lavender, amethyst, light blue.
Pattern from: Ravelry

Notes: This would be easy to make larger or smaller. But as with traditional grannies that I don’t turn, it has a definite skew. But I kind of like the way it looks with this pattern. From the 99 Granny Squares to Crochet book.

Berry Beauty 2015

BerryBeauty2015
Today’s Square: Berry Beauty
Size: 8 inch
Pattern By: Jean Leinhauser
Hook: H
Yarn: Worsted weight acrylic mystery yarn yellow, variegated, dk green, slate blue.
Pattern from: Ravelry

Notes: I’m kind of behind on my crochet posting. I have actually been doing some! This is Berry Beauty, which I did before back in 2013. This time I ditched the last two rounds and did a DC all around instead. From the 50 Fabulous Squares to Crochet book.
