Thumb Therapy

Thumb stabilizer

I got my thumb stabilizer today (along with six bags of Hi-Chew fruit chews but that’s a different story). It works just like I want it to. It keeps me from bending my thumb backward. It feels good. The only part of my thumb that will move is the very tip. I haven’t crocheted with it on yet, but typing is ok. Well worth the $12 I think.

The box says it’s good for “Gamekeeper’s thumb”. Maybe I was a Scottish gamekeeper in a past life and it’s coming back to haunt me now. Or maybe I’ll tell people I have skier’s thumb and make myself sound like a jetsetter. But generally I just say I threw my thumb out crocheting.

No, that’s the stupid thing about this. I’m RIGHT handed. I just hold my work and tension the yarn with the left hand and do the hooking with the right. Of course if it’s going to be a goofy injury it’ll happen to me. I once broke a tooth eating soft white bread….

Well, that’ll learn you! The only thing a tooth is worth breaking on is decent handmade toffee ๐Ÿ™‚

I lost a crown 2 weeks ago on a toffee. Luckily I didn’t swallow it, spat it out and put it in the cubbyhole (was driving at the time). For a couple of reasons I couldn’t get to the dentist for 3 days, by which time my tongue was lacerated and swollen from the rough bits and I was desperate for something solid to eat. He stuck it back in but wasn;t hopeful about how long it will last, says the bits left underneath have just about crumbled to nothing. Most expensive toffee I’ve ever had. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Oh no! I keep thinking I should curtail eating that sort of thing. But then I think if I’m going to break teeth on light bread, what difference is is going to make! :O

I know the feeling. I write and crochet. I’ve had one almost exactly like that for a while now. I love it when my wrist is killing me.

I have one for my right wrist which doesn’t have the thumb thing that I’ve worn off and on for years. When I was working 18 hours a day, sometimes my wrist would feel awful. It feels great, too. I’ve never had my thumbs involved though…
