Mini Filet Cross Afghan Square

Mini Filet Cross

Today’s Square: Mini Filet Cross Afghan Square
Size: 6 inch
Pattern By: Heather C Gibbs
Hook: H
Yarn: Worsted weight acrylic, similar to Caron Simply Soft. Lavender, baby blue.
Pattern from: Ravelry

Notes: I like the center of this square. I might use it in a new project I’ve found that I might start. Oh yes. I’m thinking of starting yet ANOTHER project. I think I just need to start things and then give them away for someone to finish. Like kits. 😀

Day 155: Pink Crush

Pink Crush HeartsToday’s square: Pink Crush
Size: 12 inch
Pattern By: April Moreland
Hook: H
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Hot Red.
Pattern from: Ravelry

Notes: Another little filet. I added two rounds of DC to bring it to 12 inches. If I do this pattern again, I think I would raise the center “hole” of each of the top three up one round. I think it would make the hearts even more shapely!

Gratuitous tip: Don’t do filet crochet while you’re watchinga Mythbusters marathon. You will lose count and have to frog about 3 times. Or maybe that’s just me…

And an unsolicited observation: I notice a lot of designers name their patterns after the color they made the sample. This one is Pink Crush. But I made it with red. I could call it Red Hearts in Red Heart! But I digress. I’ve done quite a few patterns that are color named but when you do the pattern in another color it isn’t very descriptive after all.

Day 149: Star

My Diamond square

Today’s square: Star
Size: 12 inch
Pattern By: I made it up
Hook: H
Yarn: mystery yarn Rose.

Notes: I just made this up as I went along. It’s so simple I don’t know if I should bother to write out the pattern for it. I started looking for filet type patterns that were worked in the round like a granny square and there aren’t many. I guess it’s usually worked back and forth. I’m pondering some simple patterns I could come up with for “in the round” squares.

Day 148: Diamonds Are Forever

Diamonds are Forever

Today’s square: Diamonds are Forever
Size: 12 inch
Pattern By: Melissa Dalton
Hook: H
Yarn: Caron Wintuk Peach.
Pattern from: Ravelry

Notes: Another filet crochet pattern. I think the pattern actually has a mistake in it starting at round 5. It leaves two stitches unaccounted for. So at that point I ditched the pattern and continued with the pattern logically. I needed to add 2 rows of DC and one of SC to make it 12 inches, so I added the circle detail to even it out some.

Day 147: Dragonfly Air

Dragonfly Air

Today’s square: Dragonfly Air
Size: 12 inch
Pattern By: Aurora Suominen
Hook: H
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Light Coral.
Pattern from: Ravelry

Notes: After doing the pinwheel square, this one seemed like a good one to do. I’m kind of liking this “filet” crochet style–a strategic use of skipped stitches to make a pattern. I might be able to come up with some of my own patterns for this!

Day 145: Pinwheel Square

Pinwheel Square

Today’s square: Pinwheel Square
Size: 12 inch
Pattern By: Dayna Audirsch
Hook: H
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Light Coral.
Pattern from: Ravelry

Notes: This is a quick and fairly simple square. The first round after the circle has one of those odd joins where you use an HDC instead of the usual slip stitch. I have trouble with that. I’m not sure what the advantage of that kind of join is. Anyone know?
